Samuel B asked:

I’ve had a chronic headache for several years now. Some days are worse than others. On the days when it is worse, my vision is also somewhat more blurry than on days when it’s not so bad. I feel fatigued almost everyday but I am in good health otherwise. The headaches are not a pain that is regulated to one spot, it is more of a foggy sensation (sort of like a hangover) in the top half of my head. Their is no particular time of the day that is worse or better than others. Any suggestions?

goodfellow408 asked:

I’ve slowly reduced my Zoloft dosage from 50 mg down to nothing, and now I’m suffering from the most intense headaches I’ve ever had in my life. The headaches are focused around my eyes and also the back of the head, and are accompanied by dizziness, blurred vision, etc. Nothing I take seems to decrease the headaches.
Has anyone experienced this before? Any advice on an over-the-counter pain killer that will help with this headaches & vertigo? Thanks!

Juliet Cohen asked:

Migraine headaches are repeated or recurrent headaches, possibly caused by changes in the diameter of the blood vessels in the head. Migraine headaches are often classified in two main types — migraine with aura (formerly called classic migraine) and migraine without aura (formerly called common migraine). Most people with migraines do not have any warning before it occurs. However, in cases of “classic” migraine headache, a visual disturbance called an aura happens before the headache starts. Classic migraine is different from “common” migraines (which have no warning sign or aura) or “complicated” migraines (which occur with speech, movement, or other problems in the nervous system). Auras usually last less than an hour. The headache typically begins less than an hour after the aura ends. About two in 10 people who have migraines experience auras, which are sensory or motor disturbances that precede the actual headache. Most auras consist of visual disturbances, such as a blind spot or a flickering zigzag line or crescent in your field of vision. Another type of aura involves unusual sensations, such as numbness and tingling of the lips, lower face and fingers. A third type affects motor function, causing problems with movement or speech.

Migraine headaches are a common type of chronic headache. Migraine pain can be excruciating and may incapacitate you for hours or even days. Some people do experience a variety of vague symptoms before common migraines - mental fuzziness, mood changes, fatigue, and unusual retention of fluid. Migraines occur in women more than men, most often between the ages of 10 and 46 years. In some cases, they appear to run in families. Migraines without aura strike without the unmistakable warning sign of disturbed vision or sensation. Still, some people say more subtle symptoms, such as mood changes and loss of appetite, alert them to oncoming migraines. True migraine headaches are not a result of underlying brain tumors or other serious medical problems. The pain of a classic migraine headache is described as an intense throbbing or pounding felt in the forehead/temple, ear/jaw or around the eyes. Classic migraine starts on one side of the head, but may eventually spread to the other side. An attack may last one to two pain-racked days. Influences in a person’s life that tend to overload the nervous system are risks. Once identified in your life, you can counteract the negative effects of risks with the positive results of protective activities.

Migraine headaches constantly accommodates changes in hormones, emotions, and thoughts as well as the many chemicals in our food and beverages. Migraines are the most studied of all headaches, and there are various competing theories about what may actually cause them. Hormones seem to influence migraine development. Some women who take oral contraceptives or estrogen experience worsening headaches while others improve. Similarly, some women have an increasing headache pattern during pregnancy while others have diminished headache intensity. Other women develop migraines for the first time when they are pregnant. Headaches may increase in some women in the days before their menstrual period. Women who do not have migraines may develop migraines as a side effect to using Oral Contraceptive Pills (OCP). Many scientists now believe that migraines arise from problems within the central nervous system. These problems, which tend to run in families, affect the chemical messengers inside your brain — making you more sensitive to the types of triggers that can cause migraines. Many internal and external factors can trigger migraine such as ,Common foods — aged cheese, red wine, caffeine, chocolate, dairy products, pickled foods, lunchmeat, aspartame, MSG, peanuts, lima beans, bananas, raisins. Physical factors — fatigue, hormonal changes, missed meals, decreased sleep, oversleeping, stress

Guide to Headache Migraine Treatment Tips

1.Many medications can reduce the frequency of migraines such as ,Beta-blockers (e.g., propanolol) Anti-depressants (e.g., amitriptyline) Anti-convulsants (e.g., valproic acid) Calcium-channel blockers These medications are less useful and tolerable to patients with infrequent headaches.

2.Other medications are taken when there is the first sign of an impending migraine attack. In the case of classic migraine, Ergots (e.g., DHE-45) Serotonin agonists / triptans (e.g., sumatriptan) and Isometheptene.

3.Other medications are primarily given to treat the symptoms of migraine. Used alone or in combinations, these drugs can minimize pain, nausea, or emotional distress caused by the migraine.Anti-emetics (e.g., prochlorperazine) Sedatives (e.g., butalbital) Anti-inflammatories (e.g., ibuprofen) Acetaminophen Narcotic analgesics (e.g., meperidine)

4.Most patients with migraine can identify certain foods that are closely associated with their migraine headaches. To find out which foods are responsible, avoid all of the above-mentioned foods and then gradually work each food back into the diet.

5.Hormone therapy may help some women whose migraines seem to be linked to their menstrual cycle.

6.Stress management strategies, such as exercise, relaxation, biofeedback, and other therapies designed to help limit discomfort, may also reduce the occurrence and severity of migraine attacks.

Greg Williamson asked:

Exactly as they sound, tension headaches are brought on by stress. Tension headaches are the most common forms of headaches suffered by both men and women. Sometime in their lives individuals will suffer from at least one tension headache.

There are still some unanswered questions as to why tension headaches occur. It is believed that the source of the pain may be when the muscles in the head and neck constrict. Although other researchers believer there is additional sources of tension headaches and that there isn’t a single trigger from the headaches. Some tests have shown that tension headaches may be caused by the wrong signals being sent to the brain. It is believed that a message of pain is wrongly sent to the brain when the muscles tense. This is why it is believed antidepressants are successful in treating tension headaches. Grinding teeth is another reason some think tension headaches occur. They believe those who are more likely to suffer from tension headaches are those who grind their teeth since this aggravates specific muscles in the head.

Unlike migraines which have pain on only one side of the head, tension headaches typically have pain across the entire front of the forehead. Tension headaches can be moderately bad, but they are often only light headaches. It is uncommon, but some people will have severe tension headaches which have intense pain. Tension headaches are not made worse by physical activity. Tension headaches occur less often or episodic and there are often periods of time in which suffers don’t get tension headaches. Although tension headaches can also be chronic in which they can occur at least fifteen times in a four week period and can continue for up to six months. Tension headaches can last for either a few minutes or up to a few hours.

There are two things you can do if you suffer from tension headaches. You can gain temporary relief by taking over the counter pain medications. The second option is to find something that will ease your tension headaches. Taking yoga classes and learning to meditate has helped some people with their tension headaches since it is a good way to ease tension. Another relaxing option is to get a professional massage. Acupuncture can also help since this has been proven to have good pain relief outcomes. Physical exercise is a good option for letting out tension so you could try joining a gym. If you have excessive tension in your life then you may need to make serious life changes. Some of these changes can be difficult such as employment or relationship changes. Although once you make these difficult changes you won’t have to deal with constant pain from tension headaches. If you still can’t get rid of tension headaches it is important to know that they aren’t dangerous and you can live with them.

Bishal Boro asked:

When a person suffers from headache, numerous parts of the head may hurt, counting a system of nerves that broaden up all over the scalp along with definite nerves on the face, throat and mouth. The various muscles of the blood vessels and the head are found along the exterior and at the support of the brain are moreover sensitive to the pain as they contain fragile nerve fibers. The part of the bones of skull and various parts of tissues of brain are itself never hurt as they lack the pain-sensitive nerve fiber. The ends of the pain-sensitive nerves that are called as the nociceptors can be enthused by muscular tension, stress, dilated blood vessels and other activate of the headache. The Vascular headaches as the migraines are a type of the vascular headache that are thought to engage the abnormal function of brain’s blood vessels or the vascular system; the muscle reduction headaches come out to involve the contraction or tensing of the facial along with neck muscles; the traction and provocative headaches are the symptoms of further disorders, varying from the brain tumor to the stroke to sinus disease. a number of sort of headache are the signals of more grave disorders: unexpected, severe headache; it is the headache associated with the convulsions; the headache accompanied by puzzlement or loss of the consciousness; the headache following a gust on the head; the headache connected with various pain in the ear or eye; persistent headache in a individual who was before headache free; the recurring headache in most children; headache linked with fever; the headache that interfere with normal life. The Physicians will get a full medical account and might order a blood experiment to screen for the thyroid disease, infections, anemia, or x-rays to regulate out the brain tumor or various blood clots. MRIs, CTs, and EEGs might be recommended. The eye exam is typically performed to test for weakness in eye muscle or on unequal pupil size. A number of scientists consider those glaring or flickering lights, fatigue, the weather, and certain foods might trigger up migraine headaches.

In the treatment process, not all the headaches need medical attention. A few result from the missed meals or infrequent muscle tension and were easily remedied. When the problem is not reassured by the standard treatments, headache sufferer might be referred to internist, neurologist, or psychologist. The Drug therapy, stress reduction, biofeedback training, and elimination of definite foods from diet are the main common process of controlling and preventing migraine and additional vascular headaches. The Regular exercise could also reduce the incidence and severity of the migraine headaches. Provisional relief can occasionally be obtained by means of cold pack or through pressing on the stuffed artery located in face of the ear on top of the painful part of the head.
